Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): The Longleng district administration has renovated Lasong Bridge that connects the district with Changtongya in Mokokchung district.
According to a DIPR report on Sunday, the bridge had been “in a very pathetic condition and threatening the lives of the travellers for years.” The renovation drive was an initiative of the new Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, M Shayung Phom.
Renovation began on September 18 with a team of dobashis working on the bridge and it was completed three days later, on September 21. The establishment of PWD Changtongya also assisted in the renovation works.
After the bridge renovation, the team under the supervision of Executive Engineer PWD, Longleng, Toshi Angh started renovating the Longleng-Changtongya road by filling up potholes and repairing the badly damaged portions between Sanglu, Alayong, Yongnyah junction and Orangkong.
“It is expected that the repairing of road will be completed within a couple of days. Therefore, the travellers are requested to kindly bear with the inconvenience and cooperate during the renovation period. The Longleng Town Students’ Union (LTSU) also visited the road renovation site to assist the team manually,” it reported.
In the past years, Longleng Chamber of Commerce, Drivers’ Union Longleng and civil societies have been repairing the Longleng-Changtongya road—the district’s only lifeline– from time to time, especially during the monsoon season, it stated.
