DIMAPUR — An emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Longleng, was convened at the DPDB hall on Monday to assess the destruction caused by recent natural calamities in the district and deliberate on measures for road clearance and restoration.
The meeting was attended by MLA and Advisor for Airways and Railways A Pongshi Phom and MLA B Bangtick Phom, according to a DIPR report.
During the meeting, Pongshi stated that the entire Phom area has been affected by the natural disaster that struck on July 19 and 20, leaving road connectivity crippled across the region. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate but expressed relief that no loss of life or major property damage had been reported.
He appreciated the support of the district administration, Phom Peoples’ Council, well-wishers, churches, student bodies, civil societies, and members of the public who came forward to help during the turbulent time.
Pongshi stated that the distribution of rations and basic amenities in the district will be coordinated with the deputy commissioner and carried out equitably across all sections of society. He urged the public to cooperate and exercise understanding until normalcy is restored and appealed to citizens not to misuse the free transportation services provided by the government, adding that priority will be given to students and sick persons.
Officials encouraged the public to remain calm, assuring them that the concerned departments are working to restore normalcy as soon as possible. Both MLAs assured that they would submit the detailed data and road profiles collected from the damaged areas to the chief secretary of the Government of Nagaland.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of DDMA Longleng W Manpai Phom, who presented a detailed ground assessment of rock, mud, debris, and avalanches in Longleng district through a PowerPoint presentation.
He informed that all data records and road profiles have been prepared for submission to the chief secretary.
