Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): The Mahila Shakti Kendra conducted a programme observing Girl Child Week, with the slogan “empowering girls for a brighter tomorrow,” on August 5 at the Christian High School in Longleng.
The main objective of the programme was to educate people about the rights of girls, “facts of life” and to address girl child issues associated with health, respect, education, and nutrition among others, updates stated.

The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates to the media on Monday giving highlights of the event.

Extra Assistant Commissioner Rohbi Sangtam gave the keynote address, the IPR stated. He said that girls ‘should stand for their rights and pursue whichever field they are interested in.’

‘One may face more struggles and hurdles but in order to be successful, one should come out from these stereotype traits, set a goal and stay focused until it’s achieved,’ the IPR stated.

Shiju Anthony, the headmaster of Christian High School, also spoke at the event.
After the programme, a special session was conducted during which girls were given opportunities to demonstrate their talents in music, poetry and giving speeches, the updates stated. “This was done to make one realize their potentials and take the right decision for their future career,” the IPR explained.

Gift hampers were given to all the girls who attended the program, the IPR informed. Those who attended the programme included high school girls and teachers, besides members of government agencies from Longleng.
