WOKHA — People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate for the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat, Dr. Chumben Murry on Friday exuded confidence that he will emerge victorious with not less than 70 percent of total votes in his favour.

Dr. Murry was interacting with media persons after casting his vote at SMB School, Wokha town, in his home constituency 38 AC Wokha.

The PDA candidate alleged that the Congress initially played the religion card while in their agenda they pushed for legalising homosexuality. However, Nagaland being a Christian state, the people came to realise that it is not ‘religion’ but development that matters, he said, while expressing optimism that the people of Nagaland will vote in support of the NDA.

Stating that it would have been better had the eastern Nagaland people participated in the election process, he however maintained that their absence will only decrease the number of votes but will not affect the percentage of votes.

Till the filing of this report, polling in Wokha district with 1,06,878 voters remained peaceful with no report of any untoward incident.

Of the three candidates contesting the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat, two are from Wokha district including Independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lotha.

It may be mentioned that Dr. Chumben Murry, Supongmeren Jamir of the Congress and Hayithung Tungoe Lotha are locked in a triangular contest.
