Dimapur, April 5 (EMN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislator Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu apologised to the party loyalists for not fielding its own candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which will be held in the state on April 11.
The MLA offered an apology during an election rally for Congress candidate KL Chishi at Phek Town on April 5, informed an update from NPF’s Press Bureau.
Asserting that the strong apologises while the weak tries to justify, Nienu apologised to the loyalists of NPF for not setting up its own candidate for ensuing general elections, but “assured the people that it has been done so for a very good reason.”
The NPF had earlier announced that it would not send its candidate for the 17th Lok Sabha election but support the Congress candidate.
Dubbing BJP as the worst enemy of the minority communities, Nienu urged the “entire Nagas to vote for the Congress party if we want to live and continue to exist as a race.” He also asserted that if Congress really wants to come back to power at the centre, they have to be a little more sacrificial in leadership issue with other political parties.
Nienu took a pot shot at the BJP for failing to fulfil its promises, including creating one crore jobs in the country and maintained that the Lok Sabha election battle is not between any other political parties but between the BJP and Congress. He also claimed that Nagas will become a minority in its own land if BJP returns to power and implement the CAB.
“So now the battle is for the survival of the Nagas as a people and as a race, as we stand at a crossroads where our generation is on the brink of complete annihilation from illegal immigrants that will swarmed our lands if BJP comes back to power and implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Parliament as has been promised by its national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi,” stated Nienu.
Also speaking on the occasion, 17th Chizami AC MLA Khalo described the coming together of the two different political entities -- NPF and Congress -- as unique, and stated that the move has been initiated for a common vision to protect the interest of the Nagas.
“We may be rendered helpless in the event of lakhs and lakhs of illegal immigrants claiming ownership of our lands and rights through this disastrous Bill after residing in a state for only six years,” he said, adding that Naga political issue has been going on for more than two decades now, but no conclusion in sight as the BJP government is “just playing with the sentiments of the Nagas and is not being serious.”
Dr. Chotisuh Sazo, MLA from 18th Chozuba AC, stated that the NPF extended support to Congress because of the shared ideologies of “upholding secularism,” Naga political issue and to stand against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Also addressing during the Congress-NPF rally at Phek Town in support Chishi, MLA Yitachu appreciated the Congress led by its president Rahul Gandhi for its firm stand against the passage of the CAB in the Rajya Sabha. He also said NPF is impressed by Rahul’s assurance to bring an honourable and acceptable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue and to amend the draconian law AFSPA.
