DIMAPUR — A total of 193 cases worth INR 325,623,02 was settled during the fourth quarterly National Lok Adalat (NLA) held across different parts of Nagaland on Saturday.
The NLA was conducted in 11 districts under the aegis of by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA). An update from NSLSA informed that a total of 914 cases/ disputes including pending stage as well as in pre-litigation stage mostly in the category of bank recovery, loan recovery and other cases namely public utility services such telephone bills were listed for comprise settlement.
Lok Adalat aims to settle disputes/cases at pre-litigation stage even before the case is filed in the court and pending cases in the court of law, which are admissible under the Lok Adalat regulation to be settled through compromise and amicable means
Judges of Gauhati High Court, Justice Michael Zothankhuma; Justice Devashis Barauh along with Ajongba Imchen, registrar of Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench and Atoka Achumi, assistant registrar of Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench; and officers of the Registry Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, attended the National Lok Adalat proceeding today at District Court Complex in Kohima.
In Kohima, 28 cases were settled out of the total of 480 pre-litigation cases including bank recovery, BSNL telephone bill recovery, one criminal and one MACT case.
In Mokokchung, a total of 25 pre-litigation cases were settled to the tune of INR 13,53,109, while in Wokha, 14 cases were disposed off with a total settlement amount of INR 12,60,636.
In Phek, 13 pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI and NStCB were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 13,20,966, while in Tuensang five cases were disposed off with a total settlement amount of INR 91,9,534.
In Dimapur, a total of 65 cases were taken up and disposed with total settlement amount of INR 2,05,28,106, while in Longleng, eight out of the total nine cases were disposed off with an amount of INR 168,680.
In Mon, a total amount of INR 10,13,000 was settled from an outstanding amount of INR 21,29,740, while in Zunheboto 18 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed of with the total settlement amount of INR 29,61,707 and in Kiphire, 11 bank loan recovery cases were taken up but without any settlement.
