Lok Adalat disposes 223 cases worth INR 3.1 crore

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has disposed 223 cases out of the total 463 worth INR 3,17,44,813 during the 2nd quarterly National Lok Adalat held across the state on Saturday.

An update from NSLSA stated that a total of 11 sittings were held at all district headquarters conducted the respective district legal services authority. It added that a total of 223 cases out of 463, which were at pre-litigation and pending stage were settled and disposed off amounting to INR 3,17,44,813.

The cases disposed were mostly civil cases including bank recovery, telephone bills, MACT cases among others.

It mentioned that Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/ compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

In Mokokchung, 11 out of the total 19 pre-litigation cases were settled with an amount of INR 16,14,718, while in Dimapur a total of 102 cases including 97 at pre-litigation and 5 litigation stage were taken up. It stated that a total of 100 cases were settled amounting to INR 1,82,87,205.

In Kohima, a total of 100 pre-litigation pertaining to bank recovery, PHE (water bill), telephone and 3 pending bank recovery cases were taken up whereby 24 pre-litigation cases were settled through the Lok Adalat. It stated that an amount of INR 17,367,11 was settled out of the total outstanding amount of INR 38,875,90.5.

In Kiphire, a total of 7 pre-litigation bank loan recovery cases were taken up, wherein 6 cases were amicably settlement. The total settlement amount was INR 3,83,095 out of the outstanding amount of INR 7,65,714.

In Longleng, four cases was taken up and disposed amount to INR 2,65,990, while in Wokha, 15 matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI, Nagaland Rural Bank, Central Bank and Co-operative Bank were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 6,94,436.

In Zunheboto, a total of 6 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of INR .8,35,281, while in Tuensang a total of 137 bank recovery cases were taken up in which 12 cases were disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 13,50,321.

In Phek, a total of 29 matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases pertaining to SBI (Phek and Meluri and NStCB (Phek, Pfutsero and Chozuba) respectively were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 13,58,151, while in Peren, 6 cases were disposed with the settlement amount of INR 45,60000, and in Mon 35 cases and disposed at a settlement amount of INR 6,58905.
