Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): The Nagaland Govt. Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union (NGRC-1 CU) in its first executive meeting on March 27, appealed the state government to promote quality work by checking contractors and the concerned executing departments.
A press release from the union president Seyiekuolie and vice president, S Bendang Jamir, have also appealed the government not to entertain deduction of various commissions, party fund and others from project fund.
While congratulated the new PDA government-Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance, the union expressed hope that the government ‘will be people friendly and would run the state of affairs as a true welfare state taken the state forward in all areas.’
The union stated that land owners should not disturb or stopped the ongoing project so as to complete the project in time.
Stating that contractors are getting the works by going through the open tender selection, various bidding, machinery requirements and others, the union said no individual should be awarded contract work just because he or she is land owner.
It also suggested that the present government must strictly follow the open tender process so as to award the works to a competent contractor.
In order to check bogus contractors, it was stated that the union has requested government departments to furnish the names of firm and contractors, project and the ongoing work progress to the union office.
While awarding works to contractors, the union urged the present government to give preferences to the local contractors.
“The government has already experienced huge loss and a big failure taken by outsider citing M/S Gayatri and Maytas who had miserably failed to perform the contract work under SARDP-NE – “two laning of Longleng-Chantongya road, Mon-Tamlu-Merangkong road, Phek-Pfutsero road and Zunheboto-Chakhabama road,” the press release stated.
