Local artisans are brand ambassadors of culture–Jacob Zhimomi
DIMAPUR — Describing the local artisans as brand ambassadors of the Naga culture, minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, has urged the former to focus on quality products saying the state government is ever ready to offer any required assistance.
Zhimomi stated this during the inauguration of second phase Tribal Artisans Empanelment Mela (TAeM) held at Peren town hall on Thursday. The mela was jointly organised by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED) and MARCOFED Ltd. under the scheme ‘’Marketing and logistics development for promoting tribal products from North eastern region (PTP NER),’ a DIPR report stated.
Zhimomi stated said under the leadership the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, tribal artisans are able to earn respectable and dignified incomes through platforms like TRIFED Ltd. and MARCOFED Ltd.
He added that through such mela not only are tribal products reaching every nook and corner of the country but the rich cultural heritage is also being promoted. He, therefore, called upon the local artisans to make use of such opportunities.
Stating that the state government is ever ready to extend any assistance, he urged the local artisans to focus on quality products. Besides, he described the local artisans as brand ambassadors of Naga culture.
Delivering short speech, Lt. Col. Sanyam Kashyap, TRIFED general manager (PT-NER), Delhi, stated that the main purpose of TRIFED was to provide platform and strengthen the livelihood opportunities of tribal artisans of North eastern region. He also enlightened the gathering on the importance of empanelment and its benefits.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Peren, Vineet Kumar, welcomed the guests on behalf of the people of Peren district thanked the TRIFED and MARCOFED Ltd., for providing opportunity for local artisans of Peren through the tribal artisans empanelment mela.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by R Bendang Ao, managing director of MARCOFED Ltd, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Abhijeet Dutta, JA of TRIFED NER.
The minister was accompanied by advisor of Information and Technology and Communication, Economics and Statistics, Evaluation, H Sethrongkyu Sangtam, MLA Dr. Sukhato A Sema and MLA, Picto.
