Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): In the first match on Tuesday, Vetao Aye FC trounced Settle FC 6-0 in the ongoing Loyem Memorial Trophy played in Loyem Memorial Ground.

Muthiu opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a super strike from outside the box after which goals began to rain in a short amount of time. Vetao Aye FC leading 1-0 barraged their attacks on Settle FC defence. However, a couple of brilliant saves and good goalkeeping skills from Settle FC custodian Kümzük minimised the goal tally. An own goal from substitute Dolim added more salt to their already injured morale as the match ended 6-0. Vetao Aye FC enters the quarter-finals as the winner from Pool B as Settle FC exit the tournament.

A nail biting second match between Saoyang Sporting FC and Laiket Lembou Seadogs had more drama than anticipated. Seadogs already losing 5-0 and 8-0 came into the match as the underdogs. Saoyang Sporting needed four or more goals to qualify for the quarter-finals however failed as resilient Seadogs defended strongly to concede only three goals. Büpen scored twice and Mushou added another, the only goal scored for Seadogs was Kejong. The match ended 3-1. From Pool C, Strangers’ United and Hügel Hifliers FC qualified for the quarter-finals.
