Mokokchung, Jan. 14 (EMN): Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM) platinum jubilee celebration cum 33rd sports meet culminated at Chuchuyimlang village on Friday.
I Meyionen Jamir, Chief Information Commissioner, was the special guest at the closing function of the sports meet.
He said that it has been 80 years since the inception of Langpangkong tournament in 1942, and during the initial stage, almost all athletic disciplines were played and many sportspersons had built their career in their respective sports disciplines. He wondered why the tournament had been downgraded to only two disciplines today.
In this regard, he opined that time has come for Langpangkong to set up a committee to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of the time and investment put in the tournament and come up with a master plan to improve and facilitate the sporting talents in the range.
He asked the players to look within themselves to see what is preventing them from leveling up and moving forward.
He observed that it is due to people’s unwillingness to take risks, lack of perseverance, desire for instant gratification, lack of priorities, search for shortcuts, selfishness and greed, lack of conviction, unwillingness to plan and prepare, rationalising, failure to learn from mistakes made in the past, inability to take advantage of opportunities, fear, inability to use talents, lack of discipline, low self-esteem, lack of knowledge, lack of purpose, and lack of courage that is holding back to move forward.
He, however, acknowledged that the Langpangkong tournament has fostered love and unity among the populace, in addition to bringing unity in the range. He, however, cautioned that if the tournament continues in the same trend, it won’t bring the progress required to compete with the others and urged LKM to seriously ponder on this issue.
In the football final match, Kangtsung team defeated the host village Chuchuyimlang by a lone goal to lift the title. In men’s volleyball Changtongya Yimsen beat Changtongya 21-25/19-25/25-20/20-25 in the final and in women’s volleyball Salulamang beat host village Chuchuyimlang in straight sets 25-13/25-13/25-16.
Meanwhile, the LKM new officer bearers for the tenure 2023-2026 are Imlinok (Chuchuyimlang) president; Ardangsen (Kilengmen) vice president; Meyitongpang (Merangkong) general secretary and assistant general secretary Imsuakum Jamir (Unger).
