[dropcap]N[/dropcap]O human being exists in this world without a dream of becoming great person or getting a good government job. Maybe never in this world the search for government job will end furthermore; who will create such jobs for all human being? However; God has created jobs for all human being born in this world for sustaining livelihood. But in the process many ends up in frustration or as a parasite to society while searching this sustained livelihood that God has blessed with. And the answer is shared from the success story of the sustainable livelihood achieved by growing vegetables on the high hills. To cite one from among many, Mr. Phozü Dukru and his family of Zhavame village cultivate vegetables, especially, cabbage and potato. He is a father of 5 children including 3 sons and 2 daughters, and had no other means of supporting the family except through farming. His earning from cabbage cultivation this year has amounted to over Rs.1,70,000/- and potato over 15,000/- (total Rs. 1,85,000). Today he is very happy being a farmer because he does not know about deductions or annual taxations or social donations but he and his family invest all the earning for his family productive activities only. His dream was to give the best education to his children and it is achieved for being a farmer. If he had migrated to urban cities in search of government jobs who knows in what state he might be; better or worst.
Another case story is from Tuensang district; Smt. Kundang Chang has similar success story about vegetable cultivation in Chendang village. She has 13 children and some are married (as recorded in 2009). The entire family is involved in growing different vegetables throughout the year. Before taking vegetable cultivation as her profession life was very hard. She failed to send children to school, no proper food and health care. However, after taking up vegetable cultivation and selling it daily in Tuensang bazar she earned enough money and brought drastic changes in her family. Today, all her children could go to good schools in different places away from the village. One is studying in Dimapur, 1 in Mokokchung, 3 in Tuensang town and 3 in GPS in the village. They eat good food and live happily. The transformation of these two families is achieved through adoption of new technology in vegetable production. Besides; overall economic improvement the most significant achievement is the dreams come true for both the families. That is their children could go to good Private English Schools.
Living as a farmer but earning more than a Gr IV staff is shown by these two families. Example; Mr. Phozü Dukru had an earning of Rs. 1,85,000 (i.e. Rs. 15,416/month) this year by growing and selling cabbage & potato (paddy harvested for his domestic consumption not recorded) where as a fixed pay government employee at present gets Rs. 36,000.00 per year (Rs. 3000/month). The sweetest is that, all the earnings made by the farmer is fully utilized for his family only, where as the fixed pay government employee might be taxed for one or the other reasons. The reason is nothing but the farmer is a Producer of commodity. God has created one job for each one and if you are you employed as a government servant than that’s fine but if you are still searching for one; then there are plentiful jobs awaiting your green fingers in the green hills. God bless naga farmers.
