Dimapur, Oct. 7 (EMN): Joining with the rest of the country, Wokha district observed the Wildlife Week from October 2 to the 8th by organising various activities.
To mark the occasion, the Wokha forest division organised a plantation drive at Doyang on October 7 on the theme “Sustaining all life on earth,” an update from the department stated on Wednesday.
To commemorate the celebration, a photography competition on the topic “Vistas of Mt. Tiyi and its biodiversity” was organised for the schools and colleges in Wokha district, which saw many exciting entries.
The reported stated that Lichamo Yanthan from Mt. Tiyi College was declared winner of the competition, while Lumchen from Libemo Memorial School and Lichamo Yanthan were declared the second and third winners respectively.
In the junior category, Nchumthung Ezung was declared the winner, while Zuchobeni and Mhachen Humtsoe were declared the second and third winners respectively. The consolation prizes were also awarded to Athungo Tsanglao and Yanpolumi Kikon both from Grace School, Chanchithung and Nchumthung Ezung both from Libemo Memorial School and Lisenbeni K Tsopoe and Senchano Martha N Yanthan both from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.
Earlier in the programme, the keynote address was delivered by Zuthunglo Patton, DFO Wokha. In her insightful address, she stressed on the importance of conserving wildlife in particular and biodiversity in general citing local examples. She also encouraged the participants to continue exploring their surroundings in order to better appreciate and understand nature and bio-diveristy.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Chisayi, DFO, Doyang Plantation Division, and Lansothung Lotha, RFO, Baghty, chaired the programme.
