List of coronavirus-free states and UTs in India: Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram and more

Dimapur, May 15 (EMN): As the world continues to witness an alarming surge in the number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infections with Worldometer putting the total worldwide cases over 4.5 million and death toll more than three lakh as on May 15, some states and Union Territories (UTs) in India have managed to remain coronavirus-free.

According to the official data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on May 15, four states and UTs – Nagaland, Sikkim, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep – have not reported even a single case of coronavirus so far.

As of today, a total seven Indian states and UTs are coronavirus-free though the number of cases continues to increase in other parts of the country.

Here is complete list of coronavirus-free states and UTs in India(on May 15):

Daman and Diu: This Union Territory has not reported any coronavirus cases so far.

Lakshadweep: No Covid-19 case has been detected in this Union Territory so far.

Nagaland: This north-eastern state has managed to remain coronavirus-free though cases have been registered in its neighbouring states.

Sikkim: Not a single coronavirus case has been detected in this state from Northeast region.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: A total of 33 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in this Union Territory but it was declared coronavirus-free on May 7 after all the patients recovered from the disease.

Arunachal Pradesh: This north-eastern state was declared coronavirus-free on April 15 after its lone patient recovered.

Mizoram: This north-eastern state was declared coronavirus-free after its lone patient was repeatedly tested negative for the deadly virus.

India has recorded a total of 81,970 Covid-19 positive cases so far, out of which 27,920 patients have recovered and 2,649 succumbed to the virus.

Among the Indian states, Maharashtra tops the list of coronavirus cases with 1019 deaths and 27,524 positive cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (9674 cases, 66 deaths), Gujarat (9591 cases, 586 deaths), Delhi (8470 cases, 115 deaths), Rajasthan (4534 cases, 125 deaths), and Madhya Pradesh (4426 cases, 237 deaths).
