Lions Club, Citizens’ Forum, Vivekananda Welfare Foundation and NCC marked India’s 79th Independence Day in Nagaland

DIMAPUR — The 79th Independence Day was celebrated by the Lions Club of Dimapur, Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum, Vivekananda Welfare Foundation, and National Cadet Corps on August 15.
Lions Club of Dimapur: The Lions Club of Dimapur celebrated the day at its club premises in Nepali Bosti under the chairmanship of Lion Jeetu Alani.
The National Flag was hoisted by President Lion Sanjay Jaiswal in the presence of special guest Lion Neena Dutta, VDG-1, along with members of Lions Club of Dimapur Blue Venda, Elite, and Leo Club of Dimapur.
According to a press release, following the flag hoisting, members of the club visited the Deaf Biblical Ministry at Naharbari, where they distributed dry rations and other essential items to the beneficiaries, which consisted of 70 students.
To further mark the occasion, the club also undertook a tree plantation drive near its premises.

Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum: Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) visited Mother Teresa Charity Home, River Belt Colony, Nuton Basti, Dimapur, as entrusted by the District Administration.
Members from Bengali Samaj, Sikh Samaj, Muslim Council Dimapur, Rongmei Naga Indigenous Forum, Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland, and Kuki Union Dimapur were the representatives from the DDCF.
DDCF members met the charity home's management and also interacted with the inmates there. The visiting team shared some words of encouragement, spent some time there, and donated grocery items during the visit.
Vivekananda Welfare Foundation: The Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF) celebrated the 79th Independence Day at its office premises at DMC Building, Kalibari Road, Dimapur, in collaboration with the Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti.
The programme commenced with the rendition of the National Anthem, followed by welcome addresses from Niranjan Saha, founder of VWF, and the president of Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti.

Both speakers reflected on the significance of the day, honoured the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters, and emphasised the role of youth in nation-building.
In his speech, Saha highlighted the influence of Swami Vivekananda’s ideals in India’s freedom movement, noting how his inspiring words fuelled the courage of leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Binay-Badal-Dinesh, Bhagat Singh, and countless others.
He also urged young people to adopt yoga for physical strength, mental clarity, and character building—laying the foundation for strong and capable future leaders.
Rita Singh, a yoga expert, addressed the gathering on the importance of yoga in achieving a healthy mind-body balance, encouraging children to prioritise well-being as part of their daily lives.
National Cadet Corps: National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Kohima celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony held by the NCC group commander, Kohima Group, along with the commanding officers of 1 Nagaland Air Squadron at Dimapur, 24 Nagaland Battalion at Kohima, and 25 Nagaland Battalion at Mokokchung.
On this occasion of national celebration, various activities were conducted by the NCC fraternity and cadets across Nagaland.
A total of 2,356 cadets and staff participated in various activities, which included marching contingents of girls and boys, the Girls Brass Band Contingent at Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima, marching contingents at all district headquarters functions, blood donation, Har Ghar Tiranga Rally, painting and drawing competitions, and a cycle rally by cadets.
