‘Light After Dark’ comprising of four visually impaired boys from Meghalaya would be performing live for charity at Wokha on June 21.
A press note mentions that the negotiations for performing live on stage at Wokha and several other places in Nagaland started last year but due to pre engagements and pre bookings besides their academic examinations the organisers and the band could eventually set their date only on the June 21 coinciding with the ‘World Music Day’.
The release highlights the journey of the band’s journey. Four visually impaired young boys and their mentor from Meghalaya formed the band named ‘Light After Dark’ whose performance is a just fabulous, amazing and inspirational. Their renditions are sometimes even better many bands performing live on stage. Their limitations are forgotten as their music takes over.
Lalzawmliana (Zawma) Sailo, the founder of the band who plays the guitar and keyboard joined the Jyoti Sroat School, Bethany Society to teach music to the specially abled children in 2007. The school band consisted of several students learning music despite their disabilities. He took notice of few boys who had good listening skills/ “good ears for music” as he defined and guided them to brush their skills leading to the formation of the band LAD (Light After Dark).
The band members consists of Dilbertstar Lyngdoh (19) playing the bass guitar, Hilter Khongpai (21) from Pynursla plays the drums, Remiki Pajuh (23) from Jaintia Hills plays the guitar with pride and Wanlamphrang Nongklhaw (25) from Shillong used to be a drummer but with latent talent for singing he took on the main vocalist in the band.
Due to their zest for overcoming their challenges they became very famous since 2016 participating in the Meghalaya mega event Meghalaya’s got talent and even got invitation to perform at several gigs in South India last year.
The event is organised by Team Metamorphosis; Wokha based Non Governmental Organization whose members render their voluntarily services for the welfare of the society.
