MON, MARCH 17

IN the backdrop of Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) inventiveness to create consciousness among the four Eastern districts of the state they came across yet another fault during their inspection at various road sites of Mon district.
The federation along with Longchang Area Students’ Union (LASU) and Junior Engineer (Civil) of BRO visited the Tuensang to Mon road construction taken up by Border Road Organization (BRO) within Longhang sector. The name of the work IMPVT/STR/100-112 km, Job no.716/112 was meant to commence on April 2012 and completed on March 2014 is still in a wretched state. Out of 12 km only 5 km has been completed with just 1st layer in the last three years. It was reported that around 20%-25% of work was completed since its commencement and the progress of work put off. Even the details of amount sanctioned and bill is not known. The J.E lamented that though funds have been allotted for construction on road they were not supplied materials. So he rued as to how a work can be completed when materials are not supplied.
The road construction of Mon-Tuensang Road to Yei Village of 20 km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), project funded by Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India work executed by Public Work Department (PWD) with a period of Guarantee by contactor for 5 years, the project which started in 2007 is still in the course of action. Under this scheme, the construction of Border road to Mopong town under Mon district is still at its initial juncture even after 7 years. Out of 20 km only 6 km has been done black topping but the road has been washed away by rain within one year of completion. Even the drainage to be constructed under this scheme has not been taken up so far creating problem during monsoon season. This shows the quality of materials used for construction of road misusing the fund by the concern contractor.
The federation along with LASU and folks of Mopong town accused the authority responsible for injustice done to its people and delaying work of development. The road acts as a lifeline to people plying within the eastern districts. So the federation has strongly warned Border Road Organization (BRO) to take up the process of sooner and deliver justice to its people or else face consequences for their unlawful activity.
