Dimapur, May 1: The initiative of Living for Environment’s (LiFE) to convert plastics into useful product particularly in the road work got a boost from the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), which has announced to collaborate in the mission.
DMC administrator, Moa Sangtam, today informed that DMC has ordered a plastic straightening machine from China which was expected to reach in a month’s time. Sangtam made this announcement at a programme during its mission of collecting plastic wastes from various government offices and educational institutions, which was held in collaboration with LiFE.
LIFE is an organisation started by like-minded youths who wants to protect, conserve and preserve the environment with the endeavour to act and create awareness on the growing problems of plastic littering in the state and poor road condition.
The team-DMC and LiFE started its mission by placing a dustbin at deputy commissioner’s office complex, Dimapur, for the purpose in the presence of Dimapur ADC, Sara Jamir.
Sangtam said the mission of collecting plastic wastes will be expanded to the rest of offices and educational institutions. He explained that dustbins would be placed in various offices and educational institutions in the days to come for collection of plastic wastes, which would be used for construction of roads.
“If the plastic wastes are collected in excess, it would be sold to re-cycling plants so that it does not end up at dumping sites,” he elucidated.
The team later went to the office of the commissioner of taxes, Dimapur, and placed dustbins at its office premises for the said mission.
