KOHIMA — In order to encourage productive aging by generating sustainable income, members of Life Connect conducted a one-day training on craft-making for the residents of Old Age Home in Kohima on Wednesday, August 30.

The chairperson of Good Samaritan Women Society and managing director of Kohima Old Age Home, Neithonuo T Liegise, said they felt the need to give skill training to the members so that they could learn to be productive and make some income. She stated that the skill training activity was to keep them busy and involve them so that they feel the worth of living and feel productive.

“Once their craft are produced, it will be sold and the income generated from selling the products will be used for maintenance of the old age home,” she said.

She also shared that imparting the members with craft skills has been her ‘long-felt dream’ which could not be carried out in the past owing to the busy schedules. She believed that Life Connect is the right organisation to carry out the activity at the right time.

Currently, there are 23 senior citizens in the old age home.

The coordinator of Life Connect, Charemnaro Pongener, said that four craft skills including paper bags and cards making, embroidery and basket making were taught to the members at the old age home.

Speaking more about Life Connect, she said the organisation is working in the slums of Nagaland. She added that they also impart skill trainings to the marginalised women and families living in poverty in order to provide sustainable income source instead of being dependent on someone.

The director of Life Connect, Sali Ngully, shared the word of God, while various staff from the Life Connect imparted the senior citizens with craft skills in two sessions.
