Mokokchung, Dec. 16 (EMN): The Longsa Gazetted Officers’ Union (LGOU) celebrated its silver jubilee at Yim Ki, Kohima, on December 16 on the theme “Towards a vibrant society”.
I Meyionen, IGP and director of Nagaland Lokayuta Police and president of Kohima Ao Officers’ Telongjem, was the guest speaker of the event. In his speech, he praised the union for having the vision to start such a forum 25 years ago.
Stating that a vibrant society is an inclusive society, he encouraged the members to work not only for its people but also strive to contribute for the growth of the Aos and the Nagas in general.
Homage to the departed members was led by R Takamanen Jamir, retired deputy director and former president, followed with invocation by Likok Jamir, in-charge of Kohima Longsa Fellowship.
Lipokonen Jamir, deputy director of Agriculture and LGOU president, delivered the welcome address, while Alemtemshi Jamir, retired chief secretary and LGOU treasurer, shared LGOU activities since its inception.
Other highlights of the programme included a song presentation by Kohima Longsa Kaketshir Telongjem, short speeches by Dr. Temsuwati, retired additional development commissioner and LGOU former president; R Lepden, former MLA; Tiyongmeren Jamir, RCS, followed with felicitation and release of souvenir.
Jubilee blessings was pronounced by Mapula Longkumer, wife of first LGOU president Rongsentemjen, while words of gratitude and appreciation was delivered by Imtiakum, deputy secretary of Justice and Law and convener of programme committee.
The programme concluded with a benediction said by Alemtoshi Longkumer, retired joint director.
