Kohima, March 13 (EMN): The Regional Outreach Bureau Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India (GoI) organised a photo exhibition on “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, a national flagship programme, at Little Flower School Higher Secondary School (LFHSS) in Kohima, on Friday.

Special quest Vetanule Demo, OSD (admin and MHRD) of the state directorate of Higher Education and liaison officer of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (Nagaland chapter), inaugurated the event. He informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the programme during the Rashiya Ekta Diwas on October 31, 2015, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Demo said that the prime minister had the vision of a sustained, structural and cultural connect between citizens of different regions that would enable the celebration of cultural diversity through mutual interaction and different reciprocity, so that a common spirit of understanding resonates throughout the country.

Launched in 2016, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat was considered as one of the most significant and impactful national programmes, which was why all the states and Union territories entered into MoU for the scheme, Demo said, adding that the Ministry of Human Resource Department (MHRD) is the nodal ministry for coordinating and monitoring the course of events in the country for this unique programme.

She added that the ministries of Tourism, Culture, Information and Broadcasting, Human Resource etc. are there to collaborate and catalyse the programme. The department of Higher Education is the state nodal department, so it is bound to see how the programmes and activities of Ek Bharat are executed and implemented in Nagaland.

Demo briefed that the “pairing matrix” was devised by the nodal ministry – MHRD, wherein the state of Madhya Pradesh has been paired with Nagaland. “The paired states enter into a series of exchange programmes, to learn each other’s language, literature, cuisines, festivals, cultural, events, tourism and all other desired activities,” she added.

She stated that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has organised a photo exhibition on Madhya Pradesh as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.

She further expressed hope that the event would impart cultural knowledge and fulfil the objective of the scheme towards creating a unified and harmonious India. “The power of visual arts to communicate will add to our knowledge of our partnered state Madhya Pradesh,” Demo added.

The photo gallery included important historical landmarks of Madhya Pradesh such as Udaygiri Cave, ancient city of Ujjain, Sanchi Stupas, and Orchha Fort to Jai Vilas Palace with descriptions.

Meanwhile, as part of the programme, a painting competition on the topic, “Unity in Diversity of India” was organised at LFHSS on Thursday. Demo gave away prizes to the winners of the competition– Maniha, for the first prize, runner-up Dzuzunu Sapu and Zuongchu for the third position.
