Longkumer was here at Ungma village on Monday to declare his candidature for the 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election on Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party’s ticket. He was accorded a civic reception at the Babu Tzubu Amphitheatre in Ungma. “I pray thatw the young generation will support me and get me elected to the Assembly to be their voice in the Assembly. I am standing for the young generation,” the 38-year-old candidate said while interacting with media persons. While replying to a query, Longkumer said that “if elected, I would really want the 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency to have a vision with concrete mission-plan, and the assembly constituency should set an example to the others.” The vision, among others, should include focus on empowerment of youth and women; and also work towards sustainable development, he shared. Earlier at the civic reception, Longkumer thanked the PDA partners for imposing their faith on him and choosing him to be their consensus candidate for the by-election. “It is a God-given opportunity, through your prayers, that I am standing here to face the by-election with your support,” said Longkumer while addressing his supporters. In this connection, he called upon the PDA partners and electors to regain the NDPP seat in 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency “with a better understanding for the future of the youth and for the people of the constituency.” The president of NDPP Mokokchung region, N Bendang Jamir also spoke at the function. He asserted that the unit was ‘solid’ and intact despite rumours to the otherwise. Jamir asserted that the unit was fully committed to support the consensus candidate and secure victory in the by-election. It was informed that the election campaign will kick-off on March 22.
