The 29-year-old ‘Girls’ creator will undergo surgery after suffering an “ovarian cyst rupture” on Saturday .
Her representative told PEOPLE: “Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital. Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for your understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”Last month Lena warned fans she would not be promoting the latest season of ‘Girls’ after experiencing a painful flare-up of endometriosis – a condition which causes tissue to grow outside of the uterus and can lead to infertility – and was advised to rest by her doctors.
