Kohima, March 1 (EMN):
Nagaland Opposition legislator Kuzholuzo Nienu has said that Delhi is ‘no more safe for the people of Northeast and minorities’ and that the Delhi police is ‘purely BJP’ which ‘may not be of any help rather they’ll turn a deaf ear to your genuine pleas and cries.’

The member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA) was addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Chakhesang Students’ Union of Delhi (CSUD) as special guest. The event was conducted on Sunday at Nagaland House.

“Delhi is no more a safe place for the North-easterners and the minorities specially Muslims and Christians,” Nienu said. “Nevertheless, since one has come to pursue your studies, you must do so by giving your best effort and putting your faith and confidence in God Almighty.”

Nienu advised the students to ‘stay out of harm by way of not encroaching into other’s field of interests.’ He said, ‘As you are all aware the Delhi Police which is under the ministry of Home Affairs is purely BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) so even if you seek the help of the law enforcement agency they may not be of any help rather they’ll turn a deaf ear to your genuine pleas and cries.’

Exhorting the students, Nienu told them that students’ life is a crucial period ‘all about learning things which will come to good use for your survival in future.’ He warned the students to avoid ‘partying and other activities that drain time and resources.’

“When you are too much into such activities you may lose track of what your actual purpose is and I assure you that you’ll regret it one day but by the time you regret it will be too late.”

Further, the MLA told the students to learn ‘their life lessons and values in time.’

“One should learn the art of swimming before one gets drowned or so also one should learn the art of fishing rather than buy fish everyday with your parents’ money,” he also stated.

On that note, he continued, ‘One should learn the art of being self-sufficient, self-dependent and learn the art of survival in this very cruel world that we live in. All this is possible only when you have confidence in yourself and believe in God Almighty, trusting is his plans for you.’

The guest of honour for the event was Neiba Kronu, minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Resources and Parliamentary Affairs. He said the insurgency problem in the state had overshadowed the Naga society for so long in the past.

The students of the present society does not have the experience of past, he said and told the students’ community to take advantage of the advancement in technology to progress as the world becomes a ‘global village.’

The minister also exhorted the students to not be ‘controlled by technology’ stating that ‘many have been used to it and many are already spoiled.’

Kronu asserted that the period of pursuing academics is the most important part of a person’s life. He advised the students to take it seriously in their pursuit for excellence.

Further, the minister advised the students to do away with the ‘dependency syndrome’ on government jobs but to develop an attitude that would make them look for other avenues and be the best as time changes.

A souvenir to mark the celebration was also published and released by Minister Neiba Kronu during the occasion.
