Noting the drastic change in the educational system in the state in the last few years, Parliamentary Secretary Youth Resources & Sports, Music Task Force and Lotteries, Khriehu Liezietsu said that apart from books and prescribed syllabus, a lot of emphasis should be given to personality development of the students through co-curricular activities which must serve as an important aspect of the school.
Addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Government Middle School, Bayavü as the chief guest, Khriehu also congratulated all the visionary pioneers and both the past and present Ward Education Committee members, school authorities and staff for carrying the vision forward and reaching this milestone today.
Also while maintaining that many schools have unfortunately become defunct due to lack of dedication and determination on the part of the people concerned, Khriehu appreciated the dedication of the staff and members concerned for bringing the school to its present status. He also encouraged them to work even harder to carry the school forward to achieve greater things in years to come.
Though a lot has to be done even now, he expressed delight that in the recent years students of government schools are doing quite well in competing with other private schools. Khriehu expressed confidence that government schools can also produce outstanding results since government teachers are also capable enough, if they dedicate themselves to their profession.
He also expressed hope that the school will produce good students which will hopefully propel them to secure good results in days to come.
He also strongly proposed that unlike the past years, parents need to understand their important role to be a part of their children’s education to ensure that the children receive maximum attention for their development. And therefore, he encouraged the parents and guardians to extend full cooperation to the school management and the teachers so as to maintain healthy relationship which in turn will contribute to the overall development of the students.
Advising the students, the Parliamentary Secretary exhorted them to appreciate the sacrifices of their teachers and the need for obedience. He also told them enjoy their school life, and work hard since their academic session is coming to an end, and expressed hope that they will do well in their studies and come out with flying colors.
The chief guest also inaugurated the Jubilee plaque of the school and later released the jubilee souvenir magazine.
Reminiscing of the past years, Ayienla who has served the school as head teacher from the period 1985-2002, said it has faced lots of experience of obstacles and struggles wherein there were no provisions of uniforms, textbooks, mid-day meal scheme etc for the students unlike today.
Also making note of the frequent comparison between private and government schools, she maintained that government teachers have greater responsibilities than those private teachers. Therefore, she said the teachers should have more determination and the dedication to educate the students and make them progressive men and women of the society.
The inaugural programme was chaired by L Asang, WEC member; bible reading and invocation offered by Khriekethozo Lhoungu, Assistant Pastor, Bethesda Church Bayavü while Caroline Yhome, Head Teacher brough the jubilee greetings and short speeches were also delivered by Povotso Lohe, former chairman WEC.
