Dimapur, August 10

The legal rights awareness campaign-cum-interaction was conducted at Oriental College, Kohima on August 8.
The campaign conducted by Kohima Law College, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority & Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) was chaired by vice-principal of Oriental College, Kohima and the speakers were Kezhokhoto Savi, I. Yaumei Phom, Hitoka Swu, Rokosevito Keyho, H. Imlimongba, Nulhuvolu Rhakho, Sashienla Alley & Kidungyi Putlang covering topics such as lokayuktas, human right, consumer rights, environment, national food security act 2013, consumer helpline with toll free No.1800-345-3701, legal services authority, medical negligence, sanitation & ACAUT’s objective by interaction.
Speakers as well as students were all of the strong opinion not to lose the ACAUT Nagaland movement but every citizen must come forward and support it with strong conviction as the movement solely works for peoples’ liberty, civil rights and public interests.
Kezhokhoto Savi, Convener, ACAUT in a release said, environment means the source of life, everything that surrounds us, which is of both living things and non-living things. “Living in big cities we find a large number of automobiles, factories, industries which causes air, pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and other harmful gases polluting our atmosphere and in rural areas deforestation is the major cause effecting our environment.”
In Nagaland, stone quarry is a good business, and the stone/rocks are very much necessary in any development or construction in hilly state. Yet there is no measure to control or limit the stone quarry, so the owner just randomly digs up the mountains causing land slide, soil erosion, disturbs the flora and fauna. Therefore, if stone quarry and deforestation goes at this pace in Nagaland, very soon landslide would become a disastrous consequence in the state.
“The protection and promotion of environment is the prior concern of the hour and we should act upon it. Some few measures/steps we can do about to save our environment are; i) always go for renewable and eco-friendly products ii) we can keep our cars and go for public transportation as far as possible iii) use bicycle or walk which both is good for health as well as pollution free iv) we can act as an environment activist in our family and contribute a least to sustain our environment as well as our private resource.”
