Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) across the State conducted legal awareness programmes and activities against child labour with Legal Literacy Club (LLCs) on June 12 on the theme "Children should not work in field, but on their dreams."
Kohima: In Kohima, the DLSA incentivised LLC members of Composite Government High School, Nerhema (Model) and Chandmari Government High School on Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation), Act 1986, POCSO Act, Right to Legal Services. A documentary on POCSO Act was also screened to the students. Altogether, 163 students including teaching staff attended the programme.
Phek: Phek DLSA, in collaboration with district level centre for women- Mahila Shakti Kendra, observed the event with LLC members and frontal NGOs at Phek Town Council hall.
Mezivolu T Therieh, chairperson of Phek DLSA, in her keynote address, stressed on children being employed as domestic helper in Nagaland. She stated that the child labour (prohibition and regulation) act 2016 prohibits employment of children below 15 years as domestic helpers. She added that such offence are cognisable and liable to imprison for six months up-to two years with fine.
Meshusayi, CDPO from Social Welfare Department, Phek, spoke on social welfare scheme for children below the age of 14 years and stated disability pension scheme for children below 14 years could be availed at its office. Pointing out that at present there are only 31 beneficiaries availing the scheme under Phek district, he encouraged the gathering to create awareness regarding the scheme.
Vilenou Kapu, women welfare officer of district level centre for women- Mahila Shakti Kendra, Phek, spoke on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and underscored the importance of education and participation of the girl child. She also spoke on different women centric issues and government schemes.
Nusakho Cheiro, associate pastor of Phek town Baptist Church, encouraged the organisers to use church as a platform to create more awareness in the days to come.
Around 115 beneficiaries attended the programme.
Mon: DLSA Mon organised an awareness programme at Green Valley School, Mon, where the theme speaker and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mon, Seyielienuo called upon the gathering to discourage and eradicate children working in hazardous places.
She opined that children below 14 years should be provided conducive environment to learn besides granting rights entitled to them.
The programme was chaired by Moba, panel lawyer, while short speech was delivered by Chetri, headmaster of Green Valley. Altogether 180 students participated in the programme.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto DLSA along with Sakhi-One Stop Centre Zunheboto observed the event with the students and teachers of Shovishe Memorial Government High School, Zunheboto (SMGHSZ), at EBRC hall, Project Colony.
Keynote address was delivered by Wokono Yhoshü, secretary and JMFC Zunheboto, while short speech was delivered by Kughavi Yepthomi, headmaster of SMGHSZ. Alovini Yeptho, centre administrator of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Zunheboto, highlighted on the functioning of the centre and services provided in different levels to the target group of people accessing to one stop at the district level.
Nagaholi K Awomi, panel lawyer of ZDLSA, explained the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Labour Act, 1986 for the safeguard of the affected children and their rights, enumerating the safety of the children engaged in different levels of work. Tovi Z Yeptho, PA, spoke on laws relating to children.
Peren: Peren DLSA observed the event at Lamhai/Dungki village in which the keynote address was delivered by Somet C Chang, secretary of Peren DLSA. He also highlighted on the duties and functions of the DLSA.
Panel lawyers namely Asuni spoke on RTE, while Italang spoke on prohibition of child labour, and Indeu spoke on RTI.
Tuensang: TDLSA observed the International Day Against Child Labour at Government High School, Chaba. The main objective behind choosing the school was that most of the students were either domestic helpers or staying at relatives. It was, therefore, necessary to sensitised and spread awareness about the laws to safeguard and protect the rights of children.
Topics covered included prohibition of child labour, POCSO, child marriage restraint act, anti -ragging, immoral trafficking act, right to education. Altogether, 84 students attended the seminar.
Wokha: Wokha DLSA observed the event in collaboration with Police Baptist Church, Wokha. Zupenthung Ngullie, pastor of Police Baptist Church Wokha, chaired the programme in which NSLSA theme song was presented by students of LLC Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha.
Advocate Shanchobeni P Lotha spoke on Child Labour Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment Act 2016 and NSLSA (Child friendly legal services to children and their protection scheme 2015.
Longleng: Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Longleng, observed the Anti-Child Labour Day at Mount Carmel School on June 12.
Counsellor of Sakhi-OSC, Nyangyungsangla Phom, spoke on the significance of Anti-Child Labour Day and also emphasised on various child rights and constitutional rights of children.
Administrator of Sakhi-OSC, C Henchem Phom, highlighted on the functioning of OSC and spoke on women centric issues and rights. Women welfare officer of Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) apprised the gathering on various support and assistance for women under the MSK and Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme.
