Legal authorities conduct awareness campaigns across Nagaland

A DLSA team carrying out a door-to-door legal awareness campaign in one of the districts in Nagaland.

Dimapur, Nov. 15 (EMN): District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and direction of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) carried out the ‘Haq humara bhi to hai@75’ in various districts of the state.

‘Haq humara bhi to hai@75’ is a campaign for providing basic legal assistance to persons confined in prisons and child care institutions, an update stated. It is a pan India campaign for bridging the gap between the institutions and the underprivileged by spreading legal awareness and ensuring delivery of legal entitlements to eligible beneficiaries to commemorate the 75th year of Independence. The campaigns culminated on November 13.

In Shamator district, Tsurito, para legal volunteer (PLV), conducted door-to-door legal awareness campaign and distributed pamphlets on social welfare and health and family welfare schemes, RTE, Domestic Violence Act, National Food Security Act and legal aid services.

Tuensang DLSA also conducted legal awareness programme at Helipong village under Tuensang district. Chulongla, administrator of Sakhi–one stop centre, explained about welfare schemes and Antimangyang Chang, retainer lawyer, spoke on Lok Adalat, law relating to women and child, victim compensation, NALSA schemes and Village Council Act.

Cheliam Khiamniungan, DLSA secretary, highlighted about free legal aid and services provided by legal service institutions. Door-to-door campaigns were also conducted in Longkhim and Noklak.

Dimapur DLSA also carried out door-to-door campaign in Dimapur, Niuland and Chümuokedima districts. The areas covered were Sirhima village, Medziphema village and Doyapur village under Chumuokedima; Kuhoxu village in Niuland distric, and PWD colony, Signal colony, Rilan village, Senjum village under Dimapur district.

Wokha panel lawyers and para legal volunteers also conducted door-to-door awareness on welfare laws and schemes, fundamental rights and duties, free legal aid and services, rights and remedies available under various laws at Nyiro village and Yanthamo village.

Wokha DLSA officials also visited the District Jail in Wokha town and interacted with each prisoner.

Kiphire DLSA conducted awareness programme at District Jail with the inmates, where Bendangwati, retainer lawyer, spoke about rights and duties of the prisoners, while the panel lawyer spoke on fundamental rights.

Kohima DLSA along with the panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers apprised on the importance of the campaign and interacted with the jail inmates. Altogether, 70 jail inmates comprising 60 UTP and 10 convicts were imparted legal awareness and assistance.

Mon DLSA carried out the campaign at Tanlao Ward in Mon town and gave legal awareness on Lok Adalat, Food Security Act, Health and Family Welfare schemes, RTE, schemes under Social Welfare department and also distributed booklets and leaflets to the public.

Zunheboto DLSA conducted awareness campaign in and around Zunheboto town and villages. The team led by Easter H Yepthomi, retainer lawyer, Inolito K Sumi, panel lawyer and Yeshika Ayemi, PLV, raised awareness and distributed pamphlets and booklets.

Phek DLSA led by its secretary, Wokono Yhoshii, held a meeting with the field teams and discussed on the various activities undertaken.

Kohima DLSA visited observation home where the panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers interacted with the staff and juveniles on different issues. The juvenile were informed about legal services authority and their legal rights.

Longleng DLSA led by panel lawyer, P Monyei Phom, conducted awareness campaigns in Longleng town, Yachem village, Alayong village and Lingtak village.

Mon DLSA led by retainer lawyer, Topha Angyen, and panel lawyers, Angun, Mannon and Ngampa, along with PLV Athikho, visited the district jail and interacted with the inmates.
