Dimapur, Oct. 3 (EMN): The Kohima Law College (KLC) grievances committee and City Law College Students' Union (CLCSU), Dimapur have appealed to the Nagaland University’s (NU) vice chancellor to reconsider the decision and either revoke the examination order or make it an online examination for the safety of all.
The Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) odd-semester offline examination has been scheduled to be held from October 5 to the 31st.
In a representation to the vice chancellor, the KLC grievances committee cautioned that if the university decided to go ahead, it will compel them to boycott the exams or seek a written confirmation assuring students’ safety and that the university shall bear all the consequences if some unfortunate misfortune befalls on any examinee.
The UGC's decision to conduct offline examination is a direct violation of the standard operating procedure laid down for the safety of the citizens and the move to allow gathering of large number of examinees only increases the risk of transmission of the virus, it stated.
It also pointed out that the inconveniences and transportation problems of those who have retreated so far and remote homestead during lockdown.
“The Nagaland University is also conducting semester exams for the final students of both degree and master course through online mode following proper procedure. When we have an iceberg experience of managing to efficiently implement the SOP in meetings or cluster of gathering, conducting offline exams at this hour will only result in catastrophic outcome,” it read.
“While pandemic can't be compromised for the sake of the exams, conducting exam through offline can't be an excuse while there are other ways to channelise the exam system as being conducted by other institutes,” it added.
In a separate letter to the vice chancellor, the CLCSU stated that the union will oppose the offline examination if the competent authority fails to provide for healthcare protection and compensation assurance.
The union appealed the authority to make an alternative arrangement for the smooth conduct of examination if it cannot provide safety measures and compensation assurance.
