Laurels and rewards for winning Manipuri women hockey team

A warm reception awaited the winning Junior Women Hockey team in their home state Manipur.
Four hockey players from Manipur made up the victorious Indian team who won the bronze medal in the GIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup in Germany(July 24-August 4) recently. The Chief Minister greeted the players and handed the proud players cheques of Rs 2 lakhs to each player at a simple ceremony at the Secretariat in Imphal.
The players comprising the winning team include the team Captain Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu (Midfielder) along with her colleagues Th Pinky Devi (Defender), Lily Chanu Mayengbam (Forward) and Ningombam Sanarik Chanu (Goalkeeper)
The Parliamentary secretary for youth affairs and sports M Prithviraj,former MLA Dr Kh Loken and family members of the players also attended the day’s ceremony.
Last week the players were also rewarded by Hockey India who awarded cheques of Rupees One Lakh to each player of the Junior Women Hockey team.
However the state authority is yet to fix a the date for a formal felicitation of the players. Manipur’s LokSabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya has congratulated World Cup Bronze winner Indian Junior Women Hockey team’s captain Sushila and her team.
“It is really heartening knowing that Manipur has four players namely Th Pinky Devi , P Sushila Chanu, Lily Chanu Mayengbam and Ningombam Sanarik Chanu in the National team, which bagged the bronze medal. Congratulations to all of you, the worthy daughters of Manipur,” MP said in a statement.
