Late G Rio men's U-19 Tournament: Wokha, Mokokchung triumph

  • DIMAPUR — Wokha secured a 14-run victory over Chümoukedima in the 5th Late G Rio Men’s U-19 Tournament at Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Chümoukedima on Tuesday.

  • According to an update after winning the toss and opting to bat, Wokha posted a total of 78 runs in 21 overs, with Shahil Uddin Laskar contributing 18 runs.

  • Wokha’s bowlers, led by Krishna Kumar, played a crucial role in the win. Kumar took 6 wickets for 21 runs in 9 overs, while Ravi Kumar Ram supported him with 4 wickets for 1 run in 5 overs. Their efforts restricted Chümoukedima’s chase and put pressure on the home team.

  • Chümoukedima, chasing 79 runs, were bowled out for 64 runs in 22.2 overs.

  • The Player of the Match award went to Krishna Kumar of Wokha for his outstanding bowling performance.

  • In another match, Mokokchung secured a commanding victory over Tuensang by 154 runs in their clash at the Sovima Cricket Ground in Chümoukedima.

  • Tuensang won the toss and opted to field, hoping to capitalise on the early conditions. However, Mokokchung’s batting lineup delivered a strong response, posting a challenging total of 187 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 39.4 overs.

  • Amongti Lkr led the charge with a solid 42 runs off 76 balls, supported by a quick-fire 37 from Imkongmemba.

  • For Tuensang, Shumritsa claimed 4 wickets for 34 runs in his 10-over spell, while Aratsa Mongzar chipped in with 2 crucial wickets for 51 runs.

  • Tuensang’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, managing only 33 runs before being bowled out in just 19.1 overs. Phololi was the top scorer with a modest 8 runs off 27 balls, as no other batsman managed to cross double digits.

  • Amongti Lkr emerged as the star performer with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 20 runs in 9.1 overs. His incisive bowling, coupled with Sungjemmongba’s spell of 4 wickets for just 8 runs in 7 overs, dismantled Tuensang’s batting lineup.

  • The Player of the Match award was claimed by Amongti Lkr for his outstanding all-round performance.
