Late Dr. HR Lotha Award conferred to meritorious students from Wokha village

Late Dr. HR Lotha, class 10 meritorious award programme was held at Wokha Village Baptist Church (WVBC) devotional service on Sunday.

A special devotional service was conducted to congratulate the successful candidates of classes 10 and 12, and a prayer service for the students.

 On the occasion, the meritorious awards for class 10 students of Wokha village were handed over by Mhabeni, daughter of late Dr. HR Lotha.

 On the occasion, Mhabeni extended gratitude to the members of Wokha village for helping her father financially in his early days while studying MBBS in Bangalore.

She said that a meritorious award was to encourage and motivate the students and to help them bring laurels to the village. She wished the student community to work hard and dedicate themselves in their assigned duty as a student.

Meanwhile, she also appreciated the church, government employees’ union and council of Wokha village for acknowledging meritorious students, and later handed over a certificate and cash amount of INR 7,000 to Chumreno Z Erui for her meritorious achievement from Wokha village in the recently declared NBSE class 10 exam result.

The Wokha village Baptist church also awarded a citation to Chumreno Z Erui.

Late Lotha was the first doctor and the first gazetted officer from Wokha village. He went on to study MBBS in Bangalore in 1964 and completed it in 1970. He served in a private hospital and later joined government service as a medical officer in August 1991.

Dr. HR Lotha passed away on November 20, 1995 while he was serving as Civil Surgeon (now known as CMO), and is survived by a daughter and five sons.
