Landslide risk mitigation & management trg culminates
Dimapur, June 30 (EMN): Training on Landslide Risk Mitigation and Management was conducted from June 28-30 at Administrative Training Institute, Nagaland, Kohima.
A total of 29 officers from 7 departments attended the training. The course consisted of basics of disaster management, disaster risk profile of Nagaland, landslide and different types, landslide mitigation, landslide management strategies and landslide hazard zonation mapping.
The resource persons were, Kekhriezavi lea, Er.Keneizhatuo , Er.N.Moa Longkumer and Dr.Hovithal Sothu.The valedictory function was graced by Kevekha Kevin Zehol, NCS, Additional Director ATI and Joint Secretary to the Government of Nagaland. He encouraged the officials to prepare a summary report of what they have learnt in the training and submit to their nominating authorities. He also stressed the need for community participation to reclaim the land, citing the example of Israel, where citizens play active role. Importance of having civic sense by each individual of the state is of paramount importance because if we don’t, drains and streams may be blocked resulting in more instability in the state, he added. He appreciated the course coordinator for the successful completion of the training.
The course coordinator and chairman of the program Dr.Hovithal Sothu highlighted the feedback of the participants and proposed the vote of thanks, where he appreciated the Additional Director for taking keen interest in the training activities. He also thanked the participants, the resource persons and all the officials of ATI for being instrumental in making the training a success.
