According to the villagers, the landslide had occurred a few weeks ago but had worsened as a result of the inclement weather. On Tuesday, the village authorities of Kigwema including youth leaders inspected the affected area to take stock of the situation. There are two separate roads after crossing the NH-2 that connect below Makhuma Khel of Kigwema: one that goes below the village and another which goes through it, a press release  received here on Tueday informed. Landslide occurred from above the latter, pushing debris down and completely blocking the other road below. Village authorities said the there was erosion on the road which cuts through the village and was gradually sinking, making it impossible for medium to heavy passenger vehicles to ply. On Tuesday, the road was almost cut off completely, it informed. Those who are affected the most are stated to be the farmers from neighbouring villages who regularly ferry their produce to sell in the local markets of Kohima, as well as students of educational institutions in Kigwema and Mima villages. It has informed that the district disaster management authority has been alerted but other than a site inspection, no other steps have been initiated yet.
