Mokokchung, Oct. 2 (EMN): Advisor for Industries and Commerce Imnatiba on Friday stated that after the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had declared the liquidation of Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), a consensus decision has been taken to reclaim the allocated land of Nagaland Pulp and Paper Company Ltd. (NPPCL) and reprogramme it.

Addressing the village council members from Kangtsung, Merangkong and Wameken villages at the Dobashi Customary court at Tuli on October 1, the advisor informed that a land area consisting of nearly 700 acres was leased out to HPCL for 99 years to start the NPPCL

He, however, said that without the completion of the leased out years, HPCL had “ceased to exist with the declaration of liquidation by the government of India”.

He also maintained that former leaders were ‘visionary’ and had set up industries like sugar mill and paper mill.

The advisor stated that back then, people were not ‘mentally prepared to understand the discipline of industry and business ethics’.

In this regard, he assured the people that the central government has ‘broader plans to take up initiative in all the government-owned land’.

“This government (PDA) does not take initiative based on political inclination but will take up initiatives where there is potential,” he asserted.

Stating that land allocated to NPPCL has ‘huge potential for future prospects’, he further assured the people that the government’s programmes and policies will be slowly unveiled to the public.

He also assured that the department has hired ‘learned lawyers’ to fight for the employees of HPCL to get their dues and benefits since the NPPCL has been shut down.

Urging the people of Tuli area, surrounding villages and civil societies to protect the government’s land, Imnatiba said, ‘unlike other states where direct orders are applied, in Nagaland, there is an ethos where co-operation and support from village council and citizen forums are needed for the successful implementation of the government programmes’.

On Naga political issue

As facilitators in the Naga political issue, he said that the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) led by NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer has convened a serious of meeting on this issue.

He said the chief minister, along with the legislators, is engaged in a series of meetings with the NNPG and NSCN (IM) in an effort to bring an honourable and acceptable solution.
