Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): The civil society organisations of Peren district have condemned the killing of three persons — Itingwangbe Haikam, Hangyi and Asiambo – on Monday and urged the governments of India and Nagaland to immediately arrest the culprits and severe befitting punishment as per the law of the land.

A joint statement from Nagaland Zeliang people’s Organisation, Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland and Zeme Council Nagaland stated that this was resolved at an emergency meeting of civil societies held at Jalukie town on Wednesday.

It was resolved at the meeting that ‘the state government implement in letter and spirit the shifting of Kiyevi village affected since 1979, at the earliest’ and also ‘evict all unrecognised villages within the traditional boundary of Zeliang Naga bordering Chakhro Angami areas’.

The House also resolved not to allow any more “underground designated camp” to be set up within the traditional boundary of Zeliang Nagas in Peren district and that initiative in that direction by any agencies “will be taken as an attack to the survivability of our tribe in the state of Nagaland”.

It went on to say that the Centre and state governments should act in their demands at the earliest, “otherwise the CSOs of Peren district should not be held responsible for any fallout of the status quo”.
