The advisor of Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Moatoshi Longkumer has launched a toll-free helpline number for the Labour department.
DIMAPUR — To facilitate workers from exploitation, the Labour department launched toll-free helpline No. 18003090407 on Friday. The toll-free helpline number was inaugurated by the advisor of Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Moatoshi Longkumer, at the office of the Labour Commissioner in Kohima.
An update from the Labour department stated that the scenario in the state has significantly changed in recent years owing to urbanisation, steady growth of small-scale industries and business establishments, and also growth in the construction sector.
It, however, stated that the majority of those workers are unorganised in nature and are vulnerable to social and economic exploitation due to illiteracy, the dispersed nature of operations and processes and lack of proper streamlined institutional back-up. Besides, it added that the workers are also mostly ignorant about their rights and the effort to approach the department for lodging their grievances was negligible.
Therefore, it is stated that keeping in mind the interests and welfare of the workers in the state, the department has institutionalised a toll-free helpline number 18003090407. This number enables them to have easy access to the department, allowing them to make phone calls from the workplace and bring forward their issues and grievances.
It added that the toll-free number would not only be meant for workers in Nagaland but also for Naga boys and girls working outside the state having any issues or grievances relating to their employment condition.
The report stated that the introduction of the toll-free number was a progressive step taken by the department to enhance communication with the workers of Nagaland. It also facilitates the provision of a wide range of services in a user-friendly and accessible manner.
It was stated that the facility would operate 24×7. The report also mentioned that dedicated operators would attend calls from 9 am to 4 pm on office working days. Additionally, it was explained that the helpline number would be set on ‘auto-record’ mode during non-working hours or days and would be attended to promptly on the next working day.
