Kwethelhi Thopi’s hat-trick put Khriekesa FC in pre-quarters

Kohima, Sep. 11 (EMN): Kwethelhi Thopi marked his entry into Nagaland football tournament by scoring three goals for Khriekesa FC against One-Ten FC during the ongoing 4th edition of Captain N. Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament (State Level) played here at the Kohima local ground on Tuesday.

Thopi who was playing for George Telegraph SC in Calcutta Football League made his maiden appearance for Khriekesa team in Kohima and scored three goals to help his team enter the second round of the tournament.

Khriekesa FC, the winner of the Kohima district registered a 4-1 win over One-Ten FC Dimapur during the encounter.

In the match, the team stared brightly but failed to break the deadlock as One-Ten FC defended the score with the goalkeeper Ninato of One-Ten team making some crucial saves in the first half to keep the team alive.

It was Thopi who opened the scoring in the 38th minute for Khriekesa to end the first half 1-0. In the second half, Khriekesa defended as one-Ten FC breached their defensive line for Kawang to score the equalizer in the 65th minute. But a substitution for Khriekesa FC made an immediate impact as Nzauhut scored in the 69th minute to make it 2-1. Thopi went on to score two more goals in the 72nd and 75th minute to complete his hat-trick.

While in the second match, United FC Phek defeated Fountain Lad FC Tuensang 3-1 to enter the second round. Kozo’s brace and Sieketuo’s goal was enough for the Phek team to seal a victory against Fountain Lad despite Lunso scoring the lone goal for Tuensang team.

At Tsiese Basa local ground, Naga Terriers and Zunheboto Range Student Union won their respective matches to enter the second round.

In the first match played between Naga Terriers and Tizit Torando, Terriers won the match 5-0. Chingsha Phom scored a hat-trick while T Khampei and Medo Angami added a goal each for Naga Terriers to win the match.

In the second match played, Zunheboto Range Student Union came from behind to beat Victorious FC Phek 3-2.

Kuveto Keyho opened the scoring for Phek team but Rito Zaimo equalised the score in the 32th minute to end the first half 1-1.

In the second half, Tovito Shohe gave the lead for ZRSU in the 41st minute. Phek team managed to pull back the equaliser through Kukhruba Keyho in the 43rd minute.

With the match ending in a draw, Itoka Yeptho of ZRSU snatched the winning goal in the 80th minute to hand the victory for ZRSU team.
