DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Nagaland University, Zunheboto, gave away some farm tools for the farming communities in Satami village under Suruhoto block of Zunheboto district on October 30. The tools were sponsored by IARI, New Delhi, under NEH component and implemented by KVK, Zunheboto.

“One of the most important components of farming is farm implements, which not only enable the farmers to reduce the cost of production but also help in maintaining the quality of their produce along with saving of time,” stated an update from KVK Zunheboto.

It stated that its principal scientist and head, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, gave away power operated winnower and wheel hoe to the farming communities. It mentioned that the power operated winnower is state-of-the-art machine designed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa) to alleviate the burden of grain cleaning for farmers. It added that the equipment works diligently to separate unwanted substances from grains, ensuring that farmers obtain premium quality produce with ease.

As cleaning is one of the critical steps in grain processing and value addition, it stated that the machine emerged as a powerful solution for the purpose. The key features and benefits of the machine are its high-quality cleaning, effective dust and particle removal, time and cost-efficient.

It also stated that Pusa wheel hoe is a simple and useful implement for weeding in between lines of standing crops by which efficient and effective weeding is possible. It is useful for weeding and inter-cultural operations in row crops.
