KVK Phek organises programme on biodiversity conservation
DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, organised one-day human resources development (HRD) programme on “Biodiversity conservation and farmers right” in Porba village on February 16.
An update from KVK Phek stated that Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and head of the institute, welcomed the participants and spoke on plant genetic resources and biodiversity conservation in NEH region. He also enlightened on conserving local germplasms to help the farmers in registering the indigenous germplasms.
In a virtual mode, Dr. Mohan Lal, principal scientist from CSIR NEIST, Jorhat, spoke on the importance of medicinal and aromatic plants for industrial application and also elaborated on the technologies developed by the centre.
Dr. Hannah K Asangla, CTO (Agronomy) at KVK Phek, presented on community seed bank, where she explained on the different types of conservation, while Dr. T Esther Longkumer, CTO (Soil Science) at KVK Phek, highlighted the recent agriculture technologies and also briefed about the successful intervention of technologies carried out by our KVK in the district.
A presentation on feeding management in Mithun was delivered by Dr. Ragulraj S, STO, ICAR NRC on Mithun, Porba. He explained the importance of mineral supplements for good growth and performance of Mithun.
The programme was followed with an interactive session.
The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. T Esther Longkumer, CTO (Soil Science), where she thanked all the officials from agriculture and allied departments and progressive farmers of the district for attending the programme.
