KVK Phek conducts awareness, seed distribution programme
DIMAPUR — A one-day awareness and seed distribution event under Nutri-sensitive Agricultural Resources and Innovation (NARI), a programme by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek, Porba, on Thursday.
According to an update, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and head of KVK Phek, delivering the welcome address, talked about the role of women in the conservation of plant biodiversity in the NEH (North Eastern Hill) region.
He suggested conserving local germplasm as the district has diversified indigenous seeds.
Dr. T Esther, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Soil Science, talked about the importance of NARI and nutritional gardens, while Dr. Hannah K Asangla, CTO Agronomy, explained the significance of biofortified crops developed in India.
Muhuvelu and Zecheteu Wetsah, representing farmers, spoke about their experiences with nutritional gardening and how it has improved their well-being and economic status.
Farmers from Yoruba, Chizami, Lekromi, Porba, and Zapami participated in the programme.
