KVK Phek conducts awareness programme on nutri crops
DIMAPUR — The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek conducted an awareness programme on nutritional crops and medicinal plants under the Knowledge Systems and Homestead Agriculture Management in Tribal Areas (KSHAMTA) initiative at Porba on Thursday.
According to a press release, Dr. T Esther Longkumer, chief technical officer (CTO) (Soil Science), speaking on the occasion, highlighted the KSHAMTA initiative, emphasised the importance of medicinal plants, and provided insights into locally available medicinal plants found in the district.
Dr. Hannah K Asangla, CTO (Agronomy), presented on the prospects of nutritional crops, where she elaborated on the importance of foxtail millet cultivation. Keniseto Chucha spoke on the significance of nutritional gardens and encouraged farmers to maintain kitchen gardens for home consumption to meet dietary requirements.
Veralu Hesuh, YP II, briefed on indigenous technical knowledge (ITK) in agriculture, explaining various ITKs suitable for the farming community of the district.
Meanwhile, farmer representatives from Lanye, Phek, Chepoketa, and Middle Khomi shared their farming experiences. The programme was followed by an interactive session and the distribution of inputs. In total, 100 participants took part in the programme.
