ICAR–KVK Phek celebrates National Panchayati Raj Day in Porba village

DIMAPUR — ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, celebrated National Panchayati Raj Day on Friday at ICAR-KVK Phek in Porba village.
An update from KVK Phek stated that National Panchayati Raj Day is observed every year on April 24 to commemorate the constitutional recognition of Panchayati Raj institutions as the foundation of grassroots democracy and rural self-governance in India.
It stated that the programme began with a welcome delivered by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and head of KVK Phek, who highlighted the crucial role of Panchayati Raj institutions in strengthening rural governance, participatory development and community welfare. He also sensitised the gathering on the judicious use of fertilisers and stressed the need for adopting natural and organic farming practices to improve crop productivity while preserving long-term soil health.

Nucutso, Gaon Burah (GB) of Porba village, also addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of soil health management. He encouraged farmers and participants to adopt sustainable agricultural practices, especially organic farming, for enhanced productivity and environmental conservation.
An interactive farmers’ interaction session was also conducted, where participants shared their views and experiences on farming practices and rural development.
It further stated that agricultural inputs were distributed to the farmers under the ICAR NEH Programme as part of the initiative to support the farming community.
The programme was attended by farmers, village leaders and staff members of KVK Phek.
