KVK Peren organises training programme on cultivation of pineapple and papaya fruits for tribal farmers.

DIMAPUR — The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peren organised a one-day training programme on ‘Entrepreneurship development of tribal farmers through training and demonstration of pineapple and papaya fruits cultivation in Peren district under TSP’ on August 4 at KVK Peren office, Jalukie.
In a press release, the KVK Peren stated that the event brought together farmers from various villages of Jalukie and Ahthibung blocks.
The programme attended by Dr. Zieleigai Ndang, DAO Peren, and C Dory Yanthan, DFO/PD-ATMA, Peren, as guests of honour. In his address, Dr. Ndang encouraged farmers to leverage new technologies to boost fruit production and consider fruit cultivation as a viable enterprise. He also advised them on offseason production strategies to avoid market saturation.
Dory Yanthan encouraged farmers to adopt advanced technologies and utilise natural resources to boost production in the district.
In his keynote address, Dr. KL Meena, PS and Head of KVK Peren, advised the farmers to adopt integrated and mixed farming systems to sustain production as well as for regular income generation.

Z James Kikon, CTO Soil Science at KVK Peren, shared enhanced fruit crop cultivation techniques, highlighting the significance and potential of fruit cultivation in Peren.
Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS-Fruit Science at KVK Peren, conducted a training session on enhanced pineapple and papaya cultivation. He educated farmers on eco-friendly methods to manage viral diseases and insect pests in papaya, and demonstrated techniques for uniform flower induction in pineapple using plant hormones like NAA and Ethrel.
Later, pineapple and papaya saplings, neem oil, fungicide, spades and other inputs were distributed to the 25 farmers of Jalukie and Ahthibung blocks.
Earlier, Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS- Fruit Science, KVK Peren, delivered the welcome address.
