DIMAPUR — The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, successfully conducted the 9th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at the conference hall of the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, CAU, Jalukie, on March 10.
An update from KVK Peren stated that the meeting was organised under the chairmanship of Dr. H Kalita, head of the regional centre, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. KL Meena, principal scientist and head of KVK Peren, presented KVK’s activities, achievements during 2025 and KVK's interventions in the promotion and shaping of farmers' skills through various trainings and inputs distributions.
It stated that all the subject-matter specialist (SMS) staff of KVK Peren namely Dr. L Babita Devi (CTO, Animal Science), James Kikon (CTO, Soil Science), Dr. Prashant Kalal (SMS, Fruit Science) and Dr. Akshay Ujjwal (SMS, Agronomy) have presented their respective annual progress reports for 2025 and annual action plans for 2026, which outlined various agricultural technologies suitable for the Peren district.

The special guest and director of NRC Mithun, Medziphema, Dr. Girish Patil S, spoke on current technologies suitable for the farmers' community and provided his valuable scientific recommendations to the SMS of KVK Peren.
Hiazu Meru, deputy commissioner of Peren, who attended the meeting as the guest of honour, has lauded the role and efforts of KVK in shaping farmers' skills and attitude in agriculture. He has urged the KVK staff to include new technologies in order to fulfill the needs of the local tribal farmers.
Dr. AK Mohanty, director of ATARI Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya, who attended the meeting virtually, gave his valuable technical advice and recommendations to all subject matter specialists, while Dr. I Shakuntala, Dean of CoVSc&AH, CAU, Jalukie, also gave her scientific advice to the staff.
Dr. Aabon W Yanthan, scientist of horticulture vegetable science at ICAR Nagaland Centre, provided the technical feedback and recommendations related to the technologies.
Officials from Agriculture and allied departments of Peren district namely Dr. Zieleigai Ndang, DAO of Peren; Ruville from NSRLM; C Dory Yanthan, DFO/ PD-ATMA, Peren; officers from Sericulture, NSRLM, Co-operations departments, FPO and farmers attended the meeting.
It further stated that all the members have actively discussed on the district's current agricultural status, challenges and solutions.
The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS (Fruit Science) at KVK Peren.
