KVK Nagaland University conducts exposure tour for Peren farmers
Dimapur – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, Zunheboto organised a three-day farmers’ exposure tour from Feb. 20 to the 22nd at ICAR, Barapani, Central Potato Research Station, Shillong and Goat Research Station, AAU, Burnihat, Assam.
The exposure tour for farmers from Peren district was led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, PI and principal scientist and Wapangtoshi Longkumer, CO – PI and chief technical officer (Plant Protection) under the Project Tribal Community Development sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi, an update stated.
The programme was conducted with the objective “Seeing is believing” and with a view to create awareness among the farming communities about the latest technological interventions, which can be adopted or replicated by the farmers when they come back to their farms.
During the two-day tour, farmers were first taken to various demonstration units at ICAR, Barapani, which included agricultural engineering, poultry, agronomy, horticulture, natural farming and integrated farming system. The farmers were also able to get knowledge regarding potato cultivation techniques at CPRS, Upper Shillong.
On second day, the farmers were trained on different methods of goat farming, breeds and diseases management in goat at Goat Research Station, AAU at Burnihat.
A total of 20 farmers from Beisampuikam village, Peren district, participated in the exposure visit.
