KVK holds SAC meetings across state

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Dimapur, Longleng and Kiphire districts under ICAR (RC) Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre at Medziphema, held a scientific advisory committee meeting at its centre’s conference hall on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Dr. DJ Rajkhowa, regional head of ICAR, Nagaland Centre.

An update from ICAR stated that the SAC meeting was conducted in hybrid mode, where a total of 48 participants attended virtually as well as physically. The participants included Dr. L Daiho, dean of SASRD, Medziphema; Dr. M Khan, principal scientist (animal reproduction and gynaecology) at NRC on Mithun; Dr. Mokidul Islam, nodal officer of KVK; professors from SASRD, heads and officials of agriculture and allied departments of Dimapur, Longleng and Kiphire; manager of NABARD; scientists at ICAR Centre; progressive farmers and all the staff of the three KVK.

In the meeting, senior scientist and heads of KVK Dimapur, KVK Longleng and KVK Kiphire presented the progress of works executed in the year 2022 and the action plan for the year 2023. It stated that experts and officials gave their valuable suggestions and recommendation after the discussion hour.

The experts have recommended improving linkages among the line departments for the benefit of farming community and to take up post harvest management, value addition and packaging either in OFT /FLD programmes of the KVK. Experts have also recommended identification of seed growers and produce seeds on priority to ensure timely availability of seeds at reasonable cost.

Further, the experts have suggested submitting projects to NABARD under “Rural Infrastructure Promotion Fund” for setting up/ upgrade demonstration units for financial assistance.

Meanwhile, the 15th scientific advisory committee (SAC) meeting of KVK Kohima, was held on January 20 at KVK conference hall under the chairmanship of Ruovilhou Riilho, district agriculture officer of Tseminyu.

An update from KVK Kohima informed that besides the deputy commissioner of Tseminyu, Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, districts officers from Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Sericulture and other line departments, progressive farmers, farm women club and farmers producer organisation attended the meeting.

It stated that the house has unanimously approved the AAP 2023-24 after thorough discussion. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Paihem Michui, ACTO (Animal Science).
