DIMAPUR — Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Manoj Kumar, gave away essential equipment and toolkits to artisans under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana during a programme held at Ao Senden Riju in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, on Friday.
On the occasion, the KVIC chairman gave away 100 electric pottery wheels, 20 pedal operated Agarbatti machinery, 20 handmade and dana making machinery and equipment to the artisans.
Addressing the beneficiaries during the event, Kumar stated that Khadi and Village Industry (KVI) Sector has witnessed significant growth with turnover surpassing INR 1.34 lakh crore and generated over 9.50 lakh new jobs in the past nine years under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi.
Kumar has attributed the success to ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’ reflecting the Prime Minister's unwavering commitment to their well-being.
Kumar stated that the KVI sector aims to save traditional industries in rural areas and improve the livelihood of poor artisans including tribes particularly Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST). He added that the artisans are experiencing a notable transition with improved livelihood and increase in employment opportunities.
He further stated that Khadi has become a symbol of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi being the guiding lamp of taking ahead the development of KVIC.
It may be mentioned that as on December 31, 2023, Khadi institutions in Nagaland achieved production amounting to INR.0.65 crore and sales of INR. 0.47 crore besides providing employment to 60 artisans.
Later, the chairman visited Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Sangh at Burma Camp, Dimapur.
