DIMAPUR — The Kuda Village Council (KVC) has announced a one-time collection of waste management fees from households and establishments within its jurisdiction to facilitate the development of a newly acquired waste disposal site.
According to a notification issued following a KVC meeting held on June 10, the decision was taken after extensive deliberations on waste management challenges arising from the recent ban imposed by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on the dumping of waste by colonies and villages outside its jurisdiction.
The council stated that Kuda village had been significantly affected by the ban and had consequently purchased a dumping site located approximately 25 kilometres away through community funding, without any government assistance. Efforts are currently underway to develop the site and make it operational at the earliest.
The notification noted that Dimapur has recently witnessed increasing instances of waste accumulation and unhygienic conditions in several areas.

Emphasising the importance of community participation, the council said the initiative aims to maintain cleanliness and ensure a healthy environment within the village.
To meet the expenses involved in developing the new site—including construction of an approach road, perimeter fencing, transportation facilities, operational space for dumper trucks, electricity connectivity, water supply, and caretaker quarters—the KVC approved the collection of one-time fees for 2026 and 2027.
The approved rates include INR 2,000 per registered household, INR 4,000 from schools and nursery establishments, INR 3,000 from churches, and INR 500 per kitchen under the floating population and rental category.
Charges for daily, monthly and petty waste generators will be determined by the Kuda Waste Management Committee.
The council appealed to all residents and stakeholders for their cooperation and compliance in the collective effort to keep Kuda Village clean and environmentally sustainable.
