Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): Konyak Union (KU) has condemned the June 5 firing incident in which the Village Guard (VG) camp at Lampong Sheanghah was attacked by some unknown armed groups at the wee hour injuring two Assam Rifle jawans stationed there.
The union has questioned the motive behind attacking the VG camp, whose personnel were stationed to protect the village and maintain peaceful environment within its confined jurisdiction.
The union president, Manlip Konyak, and the general secretary, Honang Konyak, stated that such atrocities upon the Konyak VGs would not be accepted. It has equally condemned the perpetrators for attempting to derail the ongoing Naga peace process through such atrocities.
It stated that the union (KU) along with Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) had conducted spot verification and observed that innocent villagers had to suffer the brunt of such atrocities. The press release claimed that all schools were closed and innocent villagers were held captive for interrogation.
The union also expressed profound gratitude to the Assam Rifle officer Captain Longnyu Konyak for heeding to the call of the union releasing those held captive without any physical infliction.
The union has also urged upon the law enforcing authority to nab those culprits involved in the incident. It added that such action was a direct challenge to the resolution of the Konyak Union in maintaining its territory as peace zone.
In this regard, the union has convened an emergency meeting on June 6 at 10 am. It has invited all the Konyak frontal organisations including KNSK, KSU, KGOU, KVCU, KBBB, and MDGBU along with the KU advisory board to attend the meeting without fail. It informed that further course of action would be determined as per the outcome of the meeting.
Meanwhile, the union has wished speedy recovery of the injured victims.
In another statement, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) along with its six federating tribal bodies have vehemently condemned the incident in which some armed cadres attacked the Assam Rifles outpost at around 2 am on June 5.
A press release from the ENPO media cell on Tuesday stated that the incident occurred at Sheanghah Lampong village about 15 kilometers away from Mon town. In the press note, the ENPO has reminded the December 18, 2007, Tuensang resolution, wherein it vouched to oppose to any form of violence, threats, intimidations and bloodshed within its jurisdiction.
ENPO has appealed everyone to maintain peace and to honour the same in the larger interest of the region in particular and the entire state in general.
